Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences
All-Russia Research Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (ARRIAB)
Director of Institute - Peter N. Kharchenko, professor, DSi (Biol.) kharchenko@iab.ac.ru
Scientific Secretary - Svetlana A. Melikova, PhD (Biol.) yel@iab.ac.ru
The Institute was founded in 1974 as the All-Union Institute of Applied Molecular Biology and Genetics, and later renamed the All-Russia Research Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (ARRIAB).
The Institute conducts basic and applied research to develop new biotechnologies for creating promising crop and livestock forms with improved economic properties.
At present ARRIAB works in the following directions:
- laying the scientific bases for new gene-engineering technologies of creating transgenic plants and animals with preset properties;
- design of cell and gene engineering methods for creating new promising forms of major crops;
- design of new methods for crop gene and trait marking using DNA technologies;
- study of the physiological and biochemical molecular mechanisms of the action of biosynthetic plant growth regulators;
- methodical provision for creating immunochemical diagnostics of crop and livestock pathogens;
- creation of gene-engineered new-generation vaccines for animal protection.
The Institute trains the research staff including post-graduates and post-docs.
The Institute has international connections with research institutions worldwide.
